Wine bags (the bags from inside three litre wine boxes) work very well if
you can't get some in a hurry - but they can be a bit difficult to inflate
if they are beyond a footrest - I use a bit of spare PVC pipe held over the
tap to blow without risking getting my head stuck in the boat ...
If you are new to kayaking, get someone to watch you (as in, be right next
you in the water) as you do your first few capsizes, without the spraydeck
at first. Sometimes people just panic and freeze up when they first capsize,
so take time to get used to it with help at hand. It helps not to be too
tight a fit in the boat in these early stages, you can always add foam
padding to make the boat a tight fit once you are confident about getting
out.
