Three quarters of my last kayak is Paulownia. It was good to work with and looks good with some darker accent strips like WRC. I posted a pic a week or so ago.
By my calculations it made the kayak about 1 kg lighter than WRC.
I got mine from John White.

They are at the base of MT Warning up near Murwillumbah and were very helpful.
I ripped the strips myself and it cost just under $100 for enough for three quarters of a 15 ft kayak and $49 for the freight.
