It doesn't sound like you brought any quantitative evidence to the table that supports your "You really need to spend more time reading about composite structures". Your guess is as good as mine it seems, or whatever the reader makes of it. No big deal but let's try to focus on the arguments.

: There is some lengthwise strength imparted by the filets, without a glass
: cover not much. Most comes from the ply itself, generally a pretty nice
: material. One thing to remember though is it's got equal strength in all
: directions which means that unlike cedar strips you can't orient it to the
: loads so you're wasting some of the strength in directions not needed.
: The lengthwise strength of a strip boat comes from the strips running
: lengthwise. The sideways forces have to be absorbed by the glass, which
: it's good at.
: Not saying one building method is better than another, both have strengths
: and weaknesses. Much harder to make a round bottom boat from plywood
: though, can be done but not in sheets in hulls with any reasonable amount
: of curvature.
