If you put ribs on the inside for transverse loads who says you need to glass the outside? My 1938 Peterborough PAL dinghy was built like the old canvas covered strip canoes (ie ribs on the inside spaced about 3" apart). What's curious is the outside was only varnished. No canvas. I even found an old catalogue which said the same thing. The cedar is about 5/16" thick. The red you see in the pictures is spray paint. The person who I got it from painted it. Someday I have to restore it and put her on the water... One of those " when I have nothing else to do" projects.
