Hi Joe, have a look at this link. The numbers in the first column reflect the weight. The higher the number = the heavier the lumber. You will see that Western Red Cedar is listed at .32 and Eastern Red Cedar is listed at .47. Still, it is not a very heavy lumber. If you rip the strips at 3/16", the boat will be just barely heavier than with 1/4" WRC.
