Material: Paulownia (Kiri) wood

Has anyone used Paulownia in kayak or canoe stripping? It's sold in Australia as Kiri. It's lighter and softer than Western Red Cedar, and is advertised as a strip-plank boat building material.
If you have used it, any impressions would be welcome, as far as workability (it's way soft), strength and appearance of the finished product.
