A friend of mine is new at building paddles, broke his first solid wood Greenland paddle, and started to build a new laminated one. On the laminated one, he didn't wet out the wood with unthickened epoxy before applying the epoxy with filler. Even worse, the filler he used was graphite powder. But he didn't think he clamped it too tight. Just after he had the paddle rough carved and was about to do some refining, the lamination began splitting. The paddle was a loss. I'm hoping he'll give paddle building another try.
