Pat,

I had a similar problem when I was doing the fill coats on my hull. I was measuring my resin/hardener with syringes that had some lubrication on the plungers; that silicone(?) based lubricant got into my epoxy. I use MAS as well, I don't think it's amine blush.

I agree with the other responses, mineral spirits leaves an oily residue. In addition to sanding the coat off, I would also suggest wiping it down with laquer thinner before the next coat. In fact, you might want to wipe it down with laquer thinner before and after sanding, like that you can try to avoid sanding the contaminant into the surface.

West Systems suggests sanding with 80 grit, but 150 will work just fine. You can check out their website, it's loaded with information.
