I'd count my blessings if I were you. Here in Texas it's impossible to find clear cedar, let alone get a selection where you can pick the coloring you want. You don't even want to hear what I go through to get boat building stock in hand...

Also, your narrower strips will translate into much easier sanding, assuming you're meticulous about making all edges meet just exactly right (which is excellent policy in any case). Every minute spent in the stripping phase equals one hour in the sanding/fairing phase to come. At long last I'm getting that little gem of wisdom into my bony old head.
