I always find the VCP fittings really ugly, and I'm not convinced they spread
the load very well - probably work OK on a moulded fibreglass boat, but I'd
be unhappy about using them in a stripper after cutting a hole for a
retrofitted recess. My RDFs were modelled after the ones made by a UK
manufacturer (North Shore Designs, now bought out by Valley) and have an
anodised aluminium rod which spreads the load under the deck quite a way.

No matter what you planned, sometime someone is going to help you carry a
fully loaded boat and will pick it up by the deck lines. A lot of the
designs I've seen look worryingly delicate ...
