: I've used Dynel for abrasion edges.
: It's opaque and sucks up huge amounts of resin.
: So if you want a boat that's off white and weighs a lot, go for it.
Thanks for the heads-up notice. Strange that Defender describes this stuff as museum quality and extremely clear!
It is an old boat, which has gotten a lot of use. If the stuff I have is opaque, then I'll put a coat of boat enamel over it, and let that take care of blocking the UV for a few years. That should save me from annual varnishing. maybe a decade from now I'll decide I want to see the wood again and strip it off. Or, I may have a slightly different variety of Dynel than you used, and the stuff will go on clear like Defender says.
The glass I put on the first time was coated with too much resin. Now that I've been warned I'll keep my eye on how much resin I let it absorb. I'd have a hard time making the boat as heavy as I did when I first built it. And it will still be lighter than the neighbor's canoe. With this boat I've never been obsessive about saving a few ounces, or even a couple of pounds.
I wanted to play with the stuff, (and I've already paid for it) so I'll see how it goes. It may not be what I was hoping for, but I'll learn from the experience.
Thanks again for the info
