While checking on a lumberyard which was suggested by Bill Hamm in another thread, I found they are having a free demonstration of canoe paddle carving next weekend, in Grand Rapids Michigan.

Later that day they'll have demos on making your own spokeshave and router plane, and sailmaking for a 12 foor sailboat you can build.
