: You guys seem like you have been bored the last couple of days, so I guess
: I'll ask a question.

: I'm about ready to glass the deck on a 14' great auk. First I need to put a
: fillet around the coaming lip. I saw Nick using glass yarn, some people
: just thicken up epoxy... I have a large container of elmers "wood
: filler" and was wondering if I could use that. It matches my wood and
: dries hard, but might end up a little brittle. Are there any other simple
: ways to make a fillet, I'm looking for a simple method... and I don't need
: it to be clear.

I make a fillet inside the spray skirt lip that reinforces the deck coaming joint and the lip
coaming joint at the same time using plastic tubing.

Many hardware stores sell a clear plastic tubing in 3/4" diameter that I use to form the fillet.
Though the plastic may release from the epoxy, I apply a coat of wax to the tubing to make
releasing easier.

Doing half the coaming at a time, I apply a generous amount of thickened epoxy in the coaming gap
and then press and spring clamp the tubing into the coaming, starting at the center of the side
and working the excess resin toward the front and back of the cockpit. Mask off any area you don't
want the epoxy on and clean off all the excess you can before the resin sets.

This makes a strong and glass smooth fillet.
