Hi Shaun,
I didn't use fibreglass in the joint. I simply cut a triangular section off a strip (45 degrees, nocked the back in the tight curves to get around the bends, glued it in place, then covered with fibreglass. Its strong enough to sit on, support oneself on etc. Hasn't broken in three years.
