: I came across this in an email from my alma mater - they are using these saws
: in fabrication shops and labs.
: The saw actually senses when a finger touches the blade and stops it in a
: fraction of a second. Check out the flash movie of them cutting a piece of
: ply with a hot dog on the top - I must have watched it 6 times - it is
: simply unbelievable.
: THis is no cheap contractor's saw - it's a pro level cabinet saw, and it's
: priced at about $2800. But it would be worth having for that one careless
: day -
Hi John,
Nice idea, not new.
Could be handy for liability reasons but I don't plan on suing myself any time soon. I use a much cheaper version, doesn't cost a penny. I keep all body parts away from sharp moving tools.
I prefer the idea of safety through training first before safety through equipment, it's more widely applicable.
Training for safety teaches a way of thinking on safety, and of thinking before you touch a tool.
It works for me, I still have all the body parts I started with, with minor scarring through sheer stupidity on my part.
