Basswood is very white and has very little visible grain. It is great for accent stripes.

Basswood is heavier than cedar so your boat will gain more weight the more you use.
I stripped a hull bottom with it and added a few pounds. I wouldn't do it again.

If weight is not an issue for you then use it.
