I never strip through cockpits. This allows me to use shorter strips that are left over from other projects or use different woods that are easier to find in shorter lenghts. If you have a big difference between deck heights in front and back of cockpit opening and you dramatically bend the strips down over the opening, you run the risk of creating an unnatural bend in the strips forward of the cockpit opening. In other words, the strips will want to bend upwards forward as you bend them down towards the back and staples (if you are using them) may not hold them down.
