I like to clamp them in a metal vice, thinking the heat sink of the metal keeps the flange from spreading too thin. I also control the flame with a propane torch, making it melt quicker and perhaps burn less.

: I'm looking for some quality control from you who have used soft padeyes such
: as the ones Joe uses at Redfish Kayaks. I'm having trouble getting the
: flow even, resulting in some strange shaped flanges. I'm wondering if the
: flanges are too thin or too irregular to be reliable. I'm attaching some
