I'm an advocate of going both ways. In fact, I believe that the "complete" paddler can paddle efficiently with anything from a broomstick to a feathered wing.

That said, I paddle with an unfeathered Euro paddle about 85% of the time. I feather it going into the wind (I think the feather angle is 60 degrees). I was out yesterday in a wind of less than 10 mph and feathering into the wind made a noticable difference. It's like shifting into a lower gear going up a hill.
