Dont use solvents at all, use a thin blade, the old razor blades (the double sided ones i mean) or even better if you get a scalpel with replaceable blades, cut uder the tape sort of like shaving it off the resin for the tape bulk, then scrape lightly for glue residue, its worth to give a try tapping with some new packing tape onto the glue residue, if its fresh and tacky it will stick more to the tape than the resin and pull off, not granted but it happens. Otherwise keep a light hand and scrape it off.
Solvents are nasty and generally leave residues, resin its tough and resist well to some wiping with them, but a scalpel works on anything even varnishes that wouldnt resist solvents so its useful to learn to do it that way
(if you want a little practice try scraping a label residue off a glass bottle or jar, glass its hard it will guide you, it will give you an "hand feeling" for when youll scrape off a softer material like resin)
After scraped if its the last coat then just buff once the resin its fully and completely cured, if its going to get new coats dont bother the scraping matt surface will be covered anyways.
PS if you browse a catalog for tools to build guitars and violins and that kind of stuff youd find miniature scrapers and planes that could shave off masking tape with all the glue in one pass. I believe someone in the forum builds guitars, hopefully can give a better indications on which works better.
: What is a good solvent to clean masking tape residue off of cured epoxy. I
: obviously don't want to damage the epoxy or affect future coats. I've been
: using alchohol but there is a slight residue that won't seem to come off.
: The tape was protecting the edge of the hull while I stripped the deck and
: has been in place for an embarassingly long time.
: Thanks for the help.
