I love the feel of paddling with a feathered paddle. That said, it took a lot of work and some coaching to learn to paddle feathered pretty well. I mainly paddle with a GP and it is also satisfying and it also took some time to learn. I would say that the difference is that if a person does not put the time, they are more likely to hurt themselves with a feathered paddle. How many people do you see paddling with a feathered paddle and they are tweaking their wrist with every stroke.

Also, it is not good to compare normal paddlers to racers. In cycling we say that the only thing that you do the same as a racer is piss. This is not to say that you can not learn from them, but speed is the end all for them.

: OH, BOY! This argument again!

: Use whatever works best for you.

: With that said, I find using a high angle paddling results in less wrist
: movement when using a feathered paddle. The wrist twist that everyone
: seems to learn when they are first learning to paddle is more a learning
: tool. Wrists should be able to maintain a straight alignment when
: paddling.

: I personally like both a 60 and 45 degree feather. My ww paddle is 45, but
: I'll also use that in my sk when I want a shorter paddle. My Greenland
: paddle is unfeathered.

: Should we do the bent shaft/straight shaft argument too?
