Btw, since you're painting, you can use laquer filler for those tiny pin holes that you always end up with after filling. It is a one part filler that dries quickly and is completely waterproof. Professional body shop supply houses carry it, comes in a tube like a giant toothpaste tube. It's only though for filling tiny mistakes, not filling big things like the weave of the cloth. Usually comes in fairly bright colors so it's easy to see, so you don't miss any when you're sanding. Would look strange under varnish, works great with paint though. The 3M stuff I've used is bright green.
