You can make the tape yourself by buying a yard or 2 of 6 ounce fiberglass cloth. If you are using such cloth for covering your boat's hull or deck, then you should already have some on hand. In most cases you can use 4 ounce glass cloth instead of 6 ounce. Usually you'll find woven fiberglass tapes are the thicker 9 ounce weight.

You can cut this into straight strips, and you can make this any width you wish. So, you can cut some strips 1 inch wide, and others 2 inches wide. The wider the tape the better it will hold.

The easist way to cut this is to go either the length of your fabric (in line with the selvedge edges), or across the width of the fabric (perpendicular to the selvedge edges). However, If you make a series of cuts which are at a 45 degree angle to the weave fo the fabric--what is known as cutting on a bias-- you can make yourself tapes which can be easily pulled into the curved shapes of your boat. You can cut this with a scissors, or, if you want to spend some money, you can get a rotary cutting tool at most fabric stores. If you use a rotary cutter, use a sheet of masonite under the glass fabric, press firmly, and keep your fingers away from where they can be cut.
