Looking to build a couple strip kayaks for my wife and I over the winter. Like the looks and described performance of Schade's Guillemot design. Will likely utilize the his offset tables for building the boats. I'm 6'0" @ 180 lbs, while my other half is 5'4" @ 120 lbs. Doubt that we will ever utilize more cargo space for more than a two-nighter, and we both pack light. While I'm guessing that her boat should not necessarily be 2/3's the size of mine, it does seem logical that her boat would both fit and perform better for her if it were more 'her size'. Interested in comments/feedback from those with experience or who might have experimented with scaling back on a design such as the Guillemot, specifically:
1. What proportion (%) might one consider for the reduction, and
2. are there any specific relationships (i.e. beam vs. length (@ waterline)) that should/must be adhered to in order to optimize stability/performance?
We will keep our 13'6" plastic Currant Design 'Breezes' for beating around in the local creeks. Intent of the new boats is for security, comfort and performance on open water. Must also consider the 'Wow' factor, for when we do come back to a civilized shore.
Will be grateful for any and all input,
Todd
