I don't know the boat, but you may want to consider ripping both sizes. The only place you are likely to need the thinner strips is turning the bilge. There are several builders (me included) who use thin strips for the bilge turn and wider strips for the rest.
The other thing I will suggest is that you mark the strips you cut apart right off the saw and keep them together. The boat will look nicer if you have matching strips side to side.
: Hi,
: I have recently acquired some strips of Western Red Cedar, so am shortly to
: order the plans for the Mystery.
: The strips I have are 50mm (1.9") wide at present, so need to be ripped
: into 2 or 3 strips each for building.
: So the question is...do I rip into 2 strips of just under 25mm (.9")
: each, or would 3 strips of 16mm approx (.6" - so just over 1/2")
: be better?
: Whilst I'll lose a little more wood with the additional cut, and it'll be
: more work (more strips), I figure they'll conform better to the curves of
: the hull and be worth the effort.
: Any thoughts on the "optimal" width?
: Thanks in advance,
