: The common claim that switching to 220 volts increases the torque or
: horsepower of a motor is false. What it will do is reduce the likelihood
: of tripping a circuit breaker (common on startup if you have 15Amp
: circuits), since when you double the voltage, you cut the amperage draw in
: half. I converted my 1.5HP/110V saw to 220V for exactly that reason. It
: cuts the same, but doesn't pop circuit breakers anymore.
That's the problem I kept having with my Ryobi saw. I wanted to use a shop vac for dust collection, but the circuit breaker would trip every time. Then I found the DeWalt on Craigslist, and it was wired for 220v.
I might have gone overboard setting up with featherboards here, but this was to rip a 3/4" x 18' laminate of basswood-walnut-basswood into striped strips. It was really flexible, and I wanted to make sure my time laminating the strips wasn't wasted. The splitter did wonders. It really kept the wood from drifting into the blade when exiting the saw. I wish I'd had the splitter set up when I did the original ripping!
