That is pretty enlightening. I liked one of your earlier posts where you determine the seat position experimentally to eliminate weathercocking.

CG vs LCB is very basic and maybe not relevant if you want to be precise. What matters is how the center of forward effort (as in: paddling strokes/forward momentum by the paddler) is positioned relative to the center of backward effort (as in: resistance and wave momentums pushing in the other direction). W.r.t. the latter, this may very well depend on the angle, the position of the bow/stern relative to the waves etcetera so before you know it we are way into pristine untreaded hydrodynamics territory.

For now I'll just go with the 12 inches and make sure I can adjust the seatband forward or backward far enough to account for unexpected effects, like you recommended. Which is what I always have done, so far.
