: I've been looking at building Tom Yost's Sonnet 16. Very elegant, & I can
: transport her on the motorcycle.
: Most of the places I paddle usually have waves around 3-4'. Has anybody had
: one of these out in 3-4' waves? How does she perform?
An Atlantic coastal "Sonnet 16" paddler from Connecticut has experience in
the conditions you mention. See Link below.
As a mountain lake paddler I've been out in very high winds and in waves of
maybe 2.5+ft max and she performs great. No weathercocking, super stable,
tracks great and turns quickly. I recently replaced the Sonnet 16's upper
13.5 foot sponsons with 15 footers and this has greatly improved the bow /
stern shape and skin tightness.
Only a few have been constructed....possibly because many people think she's
an ugly duckling inflatable, without realizing she's actually a swan...
Regards,
Tom
