In Response To: A Different Retractable Skeg (Reg Lake)

: I am currently working on a foil shaped skeg and box for a production
: fiberglass kayak. I looked at hinging a surf fin from a pivot but ruled it
: out as being vulnerable to breakage when fully deployed.

My thoughts were to add material to the fin (using a larger fin from a windsurfer) at the top (red area). This area will be a snug fit in the box, hopefully giving me enough stability. It wont be deployed to vertical, but maybe to 45 degrees. Does this still sound prone to breaking?
