In Response To: Pemmiean--survival food. *LINK* (John Monroe)

I'm way ahead of you on the pemmican concern: I used it during the last completed leg of my trip. I was shopping for food stuffs at MEC and really didn't want to use beef jerky because of the sick stomach feeling caused me after eating the stuff for 4 days. I discovered to my delight that MEC was selling pemmican manufactured in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan. I bought all of their stock and took it with me. Man, that pemmican was so good and tasty that I couldn't stop eating it. I was originally worried that the pemmican would have the same stomach ill-effects that I expereinced with the beef jeeky. Those worries turned out to be unfounded. My stomach stayed happy. :)

I will be contacting the guy who makes it directly early this year in order to secure lots of it. Bypassing MEC will save me mega bucks and keep me well fed during this years 1000-kms of paddling.
