This is one of the things that doesn't work right at US. I don't understand why.

BS-6566 is a standard for (waterproof) glue. So bs-6566 plywood can be crap or very good, but the standard says only about the glue.

BS-1088 is a standard for plywood. It's a tight standard defining also the plywood quality so it's good. BUT the standard defines the wood source must be close to equator (or something like that) which means quality wood from other places don't meet the standard.

My first kayaks were made from birch plywood. The local standard means it surpasses BS-1088 in quality. But the wood is from northern hemisphere so...

In here (Finland) the plywood has quality standard (I guess n EU?) which defines the defections of wood in plywood. It's very easy to select the plywood with enough quality with the standards.

For a first time builder I strongly suggest bs-1088 plywood in US. You are going to spent lot's of time, effort and money for the kayak. Don't risk it by saving in the main components. Really how much you would save? Maybe 10-100 bucks? Bad plywood can waste all your effor so far.

After the first builds - when you get the feeling - you can then make some saving with the materials.
