Hello all...this is the first time I've posted on this forum.

I'd like to build a stitch and glue kayak...I've wanted to do this for a long time, and finally have the money, time, and building space simultaneously.

I've researched the Pygmy kits extensively, and like the way their boats look in general. The problem is, I can't decide which one to build.

The ultimate goal is to have a touring kayak that I can take on a trip I've been thinking about for a long time: I'd like to travel from my hometown of Tulsa, down the Arkansas River and McClellan-Kerr navigation channel, to the Mississippi River, and finally to New Orleans.

The plan is to camp mostly, but stay in hotels occasionally. I estimate that the trip should take 4 - 5 weeks, depending on how high barge traffic is in the locks.

Do any of you more experienced paddlers have suggestions as to what Pygmy kayak would be best for this type of trip? I'm about 5'11, size 9 1/2 shoe. I'd need lots of gear volume, of course, and the boat should be able to handle currents well.

I'd appreciate any input.
