: Well my curiosity keeps me playing around. Started really looking close at
: the panel developments and found couple of minor problems with my design.
: Easy enough to fix. Even so I still ended up with an odd looking panel(s)
: but they seem to be correct.
: I got to thinking and I revisited the flatter bottomed version. I decided to
: make another change to it and I lowered the chine where it meets the bow.
: With this change the panel development are much simpler. I would imagine
: construction is too.
: Checking the Stability and Resistance there is only minor differences. I
: doubt I would be able to tell any difference in the two. I don't like the
: look at well, but so what? Once I am paddling it I can't see the bow much
: less the bottom. The boat will look basically the same on the water.
: How it paddles is really what matters. So, is there any advantage of
: disadvantage of one design over the other?
If it were me I'd want to paddle it backwards. I personally think the chine under the surface tends to keep the stern from squatting as you approach hull speed if that shape is at the stern. A chine above the water in the bow tends to make the bow more full (assuming the deadrise angle is fairly constant) and that keeps the bow from burying in steep seas.
