Unfortunately the FreeShip graphics don't show what we need to see here. For instance with the second design front view there is no telling where the keel panels meet the bow line. Cross sections would be very helpful.

You may be wrong that #1 is easier to build. The keel panels will have very narrow endings and you will almost certainly break off part of the tips. I know that because that's how I design mine. It works but #2 would be easier, it doesn't have that problem.

How much you can torture plywood depends on what kind you use. With 4 mm soft wood you fon't have to worry, both designs are not nearly as tortured as the ones I build and it works for me.
