: BS-1088 is marine grade stamped ply BS-6566 is the british version of
: exterior plywood that is also stamped for grade. They are not
: interchangeable.

Hi Bill,
Agreed, they are different.
The categories of ply I grew up with were,

Marine ply. (1088) Hardwood veneers of the same thickness. Water and boil proof glue. No voids. No overlaps. Good both sides.

Exterior ply. (6566) Internal ply's may not be hardwood, are generally the same thickness. WBP glue. No voids. May have some internal overlaps. Good both sides.

Shuttering ply. All plys may be softwood. Veneers usually the same thickness. WBP glue. No voids. Overlaps common. Good one side. (Minimum thickness of 1/2")

Interior ply. Hardwood or decorative outer veneer, usually thin. Glue may not be waterproof. Core veneers thicker. Voids and overlaps common. Good both sides.

Doorskin ply. As interior ply but good one side.

Surfacing ply. This was more of a supported decorative veneer to be glued to a substratum. (haven't seen this in years)

There were one or two others but I haven't seen any of them in years.

The choice seems to be dropping in recent years.
