: Chris & Bill: Woops! It's 8 oz. I had several e-mail discussions with the
: guy about my sail design and he recommended the medium weight which was
: less then 8 oz. So he sent me something besides what he was recommending
: at that time. He uses 8 oz. on some of his larger designs. Two other flat
: sail I have made were out of blue poly I believe 4 oz. and the last one
: out of very thin blue poly. I was thinking since this sail will is to be
: stiffened up with battens to make more of a wing shape maybe the stiffer
: poly I have lends itself to that end. I'm hoping. I worked on it for 5
: hours yesterday and it looks good. I have the rope running around the
: outside edges and it is all sealed in. I put a 1 1/2" curve at the
: luff and foot up 50% from the tack. Up 30% from the tack on my Tyrex model
: showed a pucker between the two middle battens but 50% didn't. Now making
: the sail will slow down with the sewing, corner reinforcing and batten
: pockets.

If you're gonna be sewing anyway, you could make it out of rip stop nylon, available at big fabric stores fairly cheap.
