My first fully completed kayak has now been launched and actually floats (rather speedily too). The design is by Tom Yost (thanks for the great site & instructions, Tom!) The skeleton is 5/8" thick birch ply frames and WR Cedar everywhere else.
Skin is 8oz nylon (thanks to George Dyson) with Varathane Colours in Plastic enamel.
The deck lines are reflective braided nylon sourced from my local camping/outdoors store with teak toggles cut out of a vintage coffee table leg (the rest of the table is now my computer desk!)
Main paddle is laminated WRC & Yellow Cedar, storm paddle is single piece WRC.
The first trip was a frosty paddle around the Gorge Waterway in Victoria, Canada this weekend. Fast, stable and an all-round fun boat. Also got some paddling time off McCauley Point and Ten Mile Point. Two days, three paddling sessions, one sore kayaker.
