: I've played with very limited projects using the process. Currenly due to
: sound requirements I'd have to use a "real" vacuum pump which I
: don't have (arn't real cheap).
I got a good deal on one when I bought some outdated graphic arts equipment. they threw it in for free. The trend towards electronic scanning replacing film in graphic arts and printing technology has made a lot of those vacuum pumps obsolete. Consequently some high quality vacuum pumps, rated for constant duty, will show up in surplus stores at reasonable prices.
All too often these are described as small air compressors which also serve as vacuum pumps, when in fact they were built as vacuum pumps and just happen to also work as small compressors. Must be a much bigger market for compressors than vacuum pumps.
You aren't that far from me. If you get into a project that calls for vacuum bagging, e-mail me and, if I can find it, you can borrow the pump for a while and see how it works.
