Hi Daniel,
Adding an extra layer of glass underneath the rear deck will stiffen the deck significantly without diminishing access the the aft storage. Glass is strong under tension so it would resist the downward bending of the deck if weight comes on it.
The question I have is, why sit on the deck when getting into the kayak? Why not rest weight on the gunwales, the stronger part of the kayak, when entering?
