I did staple less on my canoe with fresh 2" masking tape; the fresh tape stretches and is harder to break accidentally. I just taped the strips in place, then I glued the next strip over the tape (yep, right over the top), when I was done stripping, I removed as much of the tape I could with a scrapper. Then I just fared (sp?) (sanded) the strips with the tape sticking out. After glassing I could not see the tape sandwich within the strips.

My canoe is completely made this way. It worked great.
