: looking to pick up glass & epoxy have a couple of ? I've used both mas.
: & west system with good results.
: 1.was thinking of using raka this time (cheaper)
Lots of builders have used Raka with no problems. Their prices and service are excellent.
: 2.have used wood flour as a thickner but need a clear finish.will carbosil
: work?
Cabosil will not give you a clear finish. Even at low concentrations, it will scatter light and yield a matte finish that cannot be brightened by varnish to the same extent as pure epoxy. Question: for what purpose will this be used? Ordinarily a thickener is used for patching and filling, or for structural fillets. These would not be visible from outside the boat (except for maybe the coaming), so either material will work. For wetout, either material would be a mistake. (For thicker cloth, like biaxial or triaxial sandwiches over 30 oz., where a LOT of resin in required, some shops load the resin up to 30% with cabosil, but not on the outside of the boat; for the 3- to 6-oz. cloth that we use in kayaks, thixotropes are unnecessary.) For fill coats, neither material is required.
: any comments would help.
: thanks
