: Hi,

: I want to build a kayak, this will be my first. One question I have is
: regarding the plans. I plan to build the Chesapeake 16, I just bought the
: New Kayak Shop by Chris Kulczycki. I also see that I can purchase the
: plans from the company.

: My question, what do I get extra in the plans that I don't get in the book?
: Are the plans full size (just need to trace), or more detailed?

: Thanks,

: John

The plans you buy from CLC don't show full size for the hull panels...that would be very long paper! and that is the most important of the layouts you will do. Only a kit will keep you from laying out panel shapes, but that is not too hard.
Does the book show you how to lay out the panel pieces to get them all out of 3 sheets of plywood? the plans do show you that. That info may save you from buying an extra sheet of plywood.
Don't worry about bulkhead shapes, that will be apparent from the hull shape. The cockpit probably won't be hard to draw as you have the inside dimensions.
I think some people build the CH16 instead of a CH17 because its in the book. If you think you want a 17ft boat don't hesitate to buy the plans.
I built my first kayak from a magazine article, the second from Nick's book and a third from offsets on the internet. But this year I'm building a CLC 17LT from their plans.
good luck, addison
