: while glassing the deck of my spring run this weekend i got to thinking about
: fillets. if glass cloth wets out clear would chopped glass as a filler not
: wet out clear as well? i would rather not have a big yellow fillet between
: the cockpit reccess and riser.
Theoretically you would expect chopped glass to make a clear filler, but in practice it tends to trap a lot of air so it appears cloudy. Maybe with careful mixing.
: here's another thought....has anyone tried a "cant strip" between
: the reccess and riser? this could be, say, a 1/4x1/4 strip cut diagonally
: to create a 45 degree angle, steam bent, epoxied in place, glassed over.
: any thoughts??
I have milled a wooden fillet to transition between the thigh brace and the coaming. It worked well although I have not tried to go all the way round the coaming. I used a 3/8" radius cove bit and milled the edge of 3/8" thick stock then ripped off the edge to make a small piece of cove molding. I clamped this in place and attached it with CA glue then glassed over it. Quite satisfactory result.
