: Might be unnecessarily complex, but it also might be really handy, too.
: Still, the best bet is to make sure your compartments are completely dry
: and carry a hand pump just in case.
: Now that sounds like a great idea! I'm going to install a foot pump, but will
: continue to carry the hand pump to pump out others' boats. Now you could
: use both hands to hang onto the "victim's" boat and use your
: feet to pump them out. Or pump with both hands and feet and bail like a
: maniac!!
: What if your hose was long enough to pump out your own bow or stern
: compartment? Just a thought...probably too much hose.
hi shawn,
see the footpeg post a bit back for some ideas about pumping out other yaks.
the basic idea is to use the centre portion of the yak for some function like say water bottle/ footpeg track/ pillar support/low 'knee'tube or whatever and use the very bottom of that function for bringing back the inlet strainer tube from the bottom of the pump. Mount the pump low anyway so if anything gets torn off, you can still pump up to the last 2 in of water from the yak.
but the new inlet end, let the last 1 1/2 inches of it stick out horizontally at the bottom of the yak from the function area so that you can reach down and slip on an extension tube to the adjacent yak.
the other method described was if you didn't want to take off yr sprayskirt, but this is the basic idea.
