: Here is a drawing of the Anas Acuta I found on the Valley site. Looks like a
: narrower version of the aforementioned Pintail, also by Valley. No
: conclusions, just thought an image might be helpful.
Craig,
An image of the original Greenland kayak that inspired the Anas Acuta can be found in the document at http://members.aol.com/kayakbooks/choosekayak.pdf. The Anas is narrower and slightly lower volume that the Pintail. It also has a great deal of rocker, and of course, hard chines. It will carve turns very well (with an offside lean).
My only real complaint with the Anas is that it is somewhat slow, and I find it "hits the wall" early, at about 4.5 knots or so. On the other hand, it is very easy to propel at just under 4 knots. Storage space is fine (I'm an ex-backbacker and minimalist), and rough water handling is very good, although you will at times wish for a skeg, to reduce weathercocking. Although the Anas is quite low volume for a production kayak, it is quite fat (beam and volume) compared to a West Greenland boat built to my measurements.
