In Response To: removeable seat (David Reid)

: I recently saw a strip built kayak with a removable seat. It was of what
: appeared to be neoprene rubber with a "tractor seat" contour to
: it. The owner said that it was quite comfortable. You just drop it in to
: the boat and position it as you like. It stays put. The back band is
: independant, and is attached to the boat itself. The name on the seat
: appeared to be German. Does anyone know where to get these? Thanx in
: advance. David

You can get a foam tractor seat from places like nwoc.com or clcboats.com or pygmyboats.com ... follow the links to their 'accessories' page and/or 'kayak outfitting' ..or in the case of pygmy's website, "hull gear". The comfort of such a seat depends on the width of the owner -- your backside needs to match its contour/width. A wider, more comfortable seat is the "creature comfort" seat, available from clcboats.com .... or you can carve your own.

You can attach these things to your boat with velcro. If the seat you want (or build) doesn't come with velcro, you can go to a fabric store & buy a length of 2 inch wide velcro (non-adhesive)...and use contact cement to glue the velcro to the boat & to the underside of the seat.
