: Val: Nice work.
Thanks!

: I like your deck line rigging. Did you use machine screws and stop nuts for
: your web pad-eyes?

Wood screws (bronze, but I'm going to replace with SS) and finish washers through webbing loops. Not as elegent or clean as flush fittings or wooden padeyes, but they work.

Do you need silicone caulk or epoxy to prevent leaking
: around the screws?

I drilled the screw holes oversize, filled with epoxy, then re-drilled. The screws go into the CLC "shear clamp" (a wood strip along the deck/hull joint to provide more gluing area). If you use this method on your Pygmy, you might need to glue wood blocks under the deck? Or use bolts with rubber washers?

When I do the "permanent" mounting, I'll put a dab of "Marine Goop" on the screws to make sure no water creeps under the epoxy to create the dreaded Black Ick.

: I've heard that the Guzzler's button is poorly positioned for pumping with
: one's foot. You state that you've mounted it high enough to work. Do you
: anticipate any problems with my size 12s and a pump mounted as high as I
: can get it to the deck?

I have same size feet & this mount works OK for me. I do have to take my knee away from the thigh/knee brace to pump, and my foot is angled forward approx. 45 degrees (I'm guessing) when I pump. Power comes from thigh muscles rather than calf/ankle. Ball of foot is on the button.

I bought a nylon T connector (the sort with the flanges to grip a hose). Cut away all but one of the flanges, so it only protrudes about 1/4 inch down inside the cockpit. Cut away almost all the cross-piece of the T, leaving a little lip on each side to give more area to glue on top of the deck. Measured so the top of the outlet from the pump is butted up against the thru-hull (with hose on the outside). Put a hose on the inlet side of the pump - flexible enough that I can install/remove the pump without hassles.

: Do you have any problems with your elegant compass mount slowing down the
: water expelled from your pump?

I haven't made precise measurements or comparisons. However, the outlet is 3/4 inch diameter (to fit a 1 inch hose). The holes to the sides are much larger than this (I used a 2 inch sanding drum to carve them out). I don't think this will cut down on flow rate any more than a 90-degree elbow in the hose would.

And is your compass affected by its
: closeness to the pump?

I tested this before finalizing my plans. I moved the pump towards, away from, and around the compass before mounting and saw no response in the compass even when the pump body was within an inch. Since the pump spring and mounting screws are at least 3-4 inches away from the compass, I do not expect problems. That is one advantage of the Bosworth pump - a plastic body has less magnetic presence.

Good luck with your Pygmy!
