has anyone tried the Arctic

My 11-year old son and I built an AT14 last year. It's a great boat, and perfect for your size. My wife and I also paddle it with great pleasure, and it's fun in waves. We also have two Cohos. You'll like the smaller boat better for what you have in mind, I think. It will be much easier to build than the Coho, and it's easy to build to an all-up, fully rigged weight of 35 lbs. or so. That pays off every day.
