I use polyurethane on all my paddles. It's so much easier to work with. System Three makes a good one, and so does Titebond. You have to store the bottle upside down, as the glue inside hardens after its been exposed to air. Get smaller bottles, and get fresh ones. You can tell by squeezing the bottle and if it crunches, dont buy it! It has to be used up within a couple months of opening, or it will go off in the bottle.
I did break one paddle with it, and the glue joints held. Mike Hanks has done some SOF boats with it, and I recall him saying he had problems with the scarf joints. Perhaps sistering them would be appropriate?
