I've tried pulling back the sheathing and overlapping the bungie. It ain't easy. Didn't work for me.
I have glued the ends of the shock cord into a wooden tube. The wood bit acts to hold the two ends together. I've no long term data on how this holds up.
: i wonder if you take the two ends and overlap them by say 3 inches, clamp
: across both at each end of the three inches and pull apart as far as
: they'll go- about 6 inches.
: so now you have 2 side by side stretched bungees with 6 inches or so between
: the clamps. Cut the nylon covering ONLY on each bungee on the clamp side
: of its short end- say by only 1 inch past the midpt. Unravel the covering
: on each back past the mid pt by 1/2 inch.
: Whip the rubber of each to each other and cut off the free ends tight to the
: whipping. Ravel(is that a word??) one nylon covering over the whipping and
: pull it tight as possible, melt or soak w/ CA. then ravel the other nylon
: covering over the last covering and gently melt or CA to it, so now the
: covering is back to continuous for a second level of security.
: Depending on how much you can unravel, might just work for a virtually
: invisible join. A little stiff for an inch or so tho.
